Dr. Arif Alper Cevik is an accomplished emergency physician and academic dedicated to advancing emergency medicine on a global scale. His expertise spans international emergency medicine, trauma care, point-of-care ultrasound, and medical education, with a particular focus on innovative teaching methods.
A trailblazer in his field, Dr. Cevik founded acilci.net, one of the world’s leading FOAMed (Free Open Access Medical Education) platforms, attracting 450,000 visits each month. He also established the International Emergency Medicine Education Project (iem-student.org), a global resource hub for medical students and educators. With contributions from 187 experts across 28 countries, the platform has reached more than 480,000 users from 218 nations, reflecting Dr. Cevik’s commitment to accessible, high-quality medical education.
Currently, Dr. Cevik is a professor of emergency and internal medicine at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). He leads the emergency medicine clerkship at the Tawam-Johns Hopkins Emergency Medicine Residency Program and played a key role in developing UAEU’s first emergency medicine clerkship curriculum. Prior to this, he chaired the emergency department at Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGU) in Turkey, where he also established an emergency medicine residency program.
Dr. Cevik is an influential figure on the global stage, serving as a member of the International Federation of Emergency Medicine’s (IFEM) core curriculum and education committee, a board member of the Asian Society for Emergency Medicine, and Turkey’s representative to the Asian Board of Emergency Medicine since 2011. As the first Fellow of the Emergency Medicine Association of Turkey (EMAT), he has held multiple leadership roles within the organization.
An accomplished researcher and author, Dr. Cevik has published 99 peer-reviewed articles, contributed 12 book chapters, and presented extensively at international conferences. He co-edited the free eBook iEmergency Medicine for Medical Students and Interns and has been a faculty fellow at UAEU’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning since 2015. In 2019, he earned a Medical Education Diploma from Dundee University, further enhancing his expertise in innovative teaching methodologies.
Throughout his career, Dr. Cevik has led transformative initiatives, including the development of Turkey’s Evidence-Based Emergency Trauma Management Course and the administration of a 1,200-bed university medical center. His work integrates clinical excellence with skills in digital publishing, instructional design, and leadership, inspiring and preparing the next generation of emergency medicine professionals.
